Today has been 1 year

It’s been one year today since we lost Tank, it’s also my birthday, which I have to admit I don’t like much any more, but now it’s much worse. I promised myself to serve Tank’s memory by helping others that are going through what we went through as so many kind people did, but I have failed. It’s been a hard year, for many reasons, but it’s only the loss of Tank that I cry for, ache for, you know. Those of us who love our furry family members, go through this pain more than once in our lifetimes, it goes with the joy of their companionship. I heading into this next year making sure I fulfill my promise and repay my debt and help others.

I have the post card from Spirit Jerry’s family posted on my inspiration board. They took the time to write a note to thank me for my support of this website. I made 2 promises that I have kept, one was to always support this community and the other is to display my “F#@K Cancer” sticker with pride! Jerry’s family has sparked me into action and I know exactly how they felt with his loss and how important this community is to the memory of all our beloveds.

Shortly before we lost Tank, Diesel joined our family. He started out his little life with a huge mission. He was a puppy with the job of closing the huge wound Cancer had left on our family. He has grown fast, and man is he something else! We say Diesel has trampoline feet, he bounds around here like he’s on springs. His joy is contagious. I was opposed to Richard’s choice of a Rottweiler at first, but it was his decision and my mistake. I had the wrong impression of Rotts, thinking they were all mean and unaffectionate. Diesel is the most sensitive dog I have ever had! He has to sit on at least one of your feet, preferably both, when he’s wanting attention. He gets deeply upset if he gets in trouble. He is just the opposite of everything I had thought about the breed.

In the end, we are recovering and life goes on. We have a tree we are planting today in memory of Tank. It will become big and strong, I see a swing in it for Richard’s first child, a daughter we are expecting in April, and flowers in the Spring. It will be here forever just as Tank will in our hearts!IMG_2329

Sweet Tank, I can’t believe a whole year has gone by. You won our hearts over the day you joined us, and your spirit is still strong. It always will be too, I hope your pawrents are comforted knowing that.

Your little bro looks like quite the charmer! And now you’ll have a bi-pawd to look after from up above too? Wow you are sure gonna be busy my friend!

Tank, please send your Momma a sign so that she knows she should free herself from the burden of feeling badly about not being at Tripawds. One of the best ways anypawdy can heal is by moving forward in life, and not focusing on the past. It sounds weird, because as much as we would love to have her join us in the Forums and blogs, we also know that she needed this time to stay away so her broken heart could heal from your loss. We get it, we would never want her to feel guilty about any part of the Tripawds community experience.

Your story is here Tank, and in so many ways, you and your Momma continue to help people again and again by showing them that there IS life after amputation. Thank you for being a part of this community, you are always loved and remembered here.

    xoxo

Thank you for such kindness! What you do for others is a living legacy to Jerry. You are my inspiration and you have my complete respect. I don’t toss that around randomly. You should know that I think you’re truly amazing and I know Jerry was one lucky fellow!!

I’m so sorry you have been without your beautiful Tank for 1 year. I only started getting seriously involved with Tripawds in Feb/March last year when our journey was taking a turn for the worst. In May it will be 1 year since we had to say goodbye to Magnum.

I have stayed on Tripawds since Magnum’s death because I desperately needed the support of this community and I needed to help others as my way of helping myself. But that’s what I needed. Please don’t feel bad that you needed to stay away. Each of us needs to heal in our own ways. I know that I’m now reaching a point where I need to walk away. Being here now is keeping me in the past, just like Jerry says. And watching others go through the pain brings back too many painful memories that I need to leave behind me.

Diesel is a gorgeous looking rottie. Magnum was also a rottie so I’m a little biased. People have preconceptions about rotties and I remember how pleasantly surprised they were at Magnum’s friendliness. I’m glad you have discovered what wonderful dogs rotties can be.

    Many hugs to you.

    Karen and Spirit Magnum
