Ugh, Cancer :(

I had this slice of me feeling maybe, just maybe Tank’s biopsy would come back negative. The Oncologist called today to tell us the biopsy was positive for bone cancer. I think my heart hit the floor at the moment he said that. He just said that it was treatable, but not curable. We take Tank in for his one week post-op tomorrow, so the doctor said he will come in and talk to us then about our options. While loved by a family, Tank is our son’s dog, he was given to Richard, and Richard has the final say in what he is willing to do or not do about treating Tank. Richard is an adult and I respect his decision, so we will see where we go from here once we get all the cards on the table.

I know many of you have stood in my shoes, and from all of you I will find comfort. I know, we love each one the same!

I’m sorry you got news you didn’t want or need. Tank didn’t get that news, though. The only moment he’s living in is the present one, and the only thing he wants is food and warmth and love. You can provide those! That’s the easy part. And keep in mind there are a lot of dogs here who have defied the odds and are plugging along just fine. My pack will cross all paws that Tank is one of them.

Oh my…I know that feeling of your heart hitting the floor when you hear that “C” word. It sucks and I am sorry.

I do not know for sure but guess that my Sweet Girl’s three legs are the result of an accident. She came to us this way. But three years ago I heard those “cancer” words about the love of my life, a lab/shepherd mix named Jake.

“Treatable” is a REALLY good thing to hear in the same sentence. We will keep paws crossed that Richard makes all the best decisions for this handsome boy. He is so very lucky to have a Gran who loves him this much. 🙂

Hold on to hope. Some dogs do really beat the odds. And even if Tank is not one of them, there can still be lots of good times left ahead. Love him up. All any of us really have is TODAY.

The decisions are hard to make, post in the forums if you have questions. You guys know Tank best and know what’s best for him. There are no wrong decisions when they are made from love.

Hang in there, we’ve been where you are, but we still have our girl with us almost 14 months later,

I agree with what everyone has said, except your vet! I think that having 10% beat the odds and win against this cancer means it IS curable.
I hope for you the same thing I am hoping for us, that Tank will be one of those lucky 10 %…
Check out Trouble’s blog, Nova’s blog, Cali’s blog. There are more, dog’s who have beaten this cancer.
He looks like a sweet boy 🙂

Cancer sucks. It does, but Tank doeesn’t know that he has it, so enjoy each and every moment that you have with him. He doesn’t have a date stamped on his butt, right? The journey will be hard some days, but that’s what we are here for. If I learned anything from my Chili dawg, it’s make every moment count and to make memories- oh and take pictures, lots and lots of pictures.

    Sending you hugs,
